This is the small anti infantry or horse spike these spikes were known as calthrop's. The spike is complete and is 3 inches wide these spikes were laid in roads and paths to stop soldiers and horses walking on them .The spike is in relic but solid condition it is rusty but not crumbling or braking up it has been nicely cleaned and is perfect for display or any collection and a rare find from the battlefield.The spike was recovered from and old German trench line near the village of Mametz on the Somme battlefield July 1916 a very nice relic and rare to find relic from this savage battle fought from 1916 to 1918.The spike comes with A5 laminated information card.
