German wooden crate for 8cm mortar 3 shell ammunition box it is complete the wood is still retains its original brown stain finnish with original black stamped markings still fairly clear to see and maker stamp on the outside 1944 .The box has the paper label inside completely readable last packed in April 1944 also the remains of a another label it does not have holes or woodworm that can be seen the hinge has broken but the lid still comes on and off very well the wood is in nice solid condition not braking up or falling apart the lock does still work and has sand camouflage paintwork the box has what looks like war time repair to the base and still has its rope carry handle. The crate was found on a local brocante or boot fair in Bras a village just outside Bastogne this village is were British and American forces both re captured it from the Germans during the fighting in early 1945.This box was used in the fighting that took place in the Ardennes Forest during the battle of the Bulge in the winter of 1944-1945.A very nice unusual relic found in September 2019 in Belgium ware it has been since the battle.
