This is a very rare find from the battlefield a German KwK 43, 8.8cm-L/71 shell armour piercing projectile base plug fired by King Tiger tank.The The bottom plug would screw in and out perfectly well if you wanted to it is in very solid and lovely condition it has cleaned up very well and retains so much of its original colour the metal is only very lightly pitted but overall very nice condition it is perfect for display or any collection. The projectile plug was fired by German King Tiger tank one of the 27 King Tiger tanks of 103 Schwere SS-Panzer-Abteilung in the 11th SS Panzer grenadier Division Nordland recovered from around city of Kostrzyn or Kustrin which was the battlefield of late 1944 until early 1945 on the Polish- German border.The shell comes with 2x A5 laminated information cards with pictures.
The 103. Schwere SS-Panzer-Abteilung (103rd Heavy SS-Panzer Battalion) was formed on 1 July 1943 as the 2nd Battalion of the 11. SS-Panzer-Regiment of 11. SS-Freiwilligen-Panzergrenadierdivision ‘Nordland’ (11th SS Volunteer Panzer Grenadier Division ‘North Land’). It was initially sent to Yugoslavia to fight as infantry. However, at the end of November 1943, the battalion was converted back into an armoured unit.
