This is a nice example and rare to find much less common then the shrapnel ones a Complete British 18 pounder high explosive shell in lovely condition dated 1918 on the bottom of the brass case. This is the heavy thick cased high explosive steel shell case which themselves are rare to find the steel case has been black painted which still has its brass driving band attached this retains its original colour the case is a bit pitted but complete .The shell is in nice condition still it's nice shiny brass colour and has all its original markings on the bottom of the case all clear to see. The head the brass has discoloured slightly its not shiny but overall lovely condition would clean up more the head has all of its original markings and dated March 1917 it does screw in and out of the case very easy perfectly in fact the shell is completely empty and inert and overall perfect condition for display and rare for any collection. The shell was found on the on the Somme battlefield of 1916-1918.
