This is a British artillery 60 pounder gas shell complete steel case with head which is dated April 1918 these are rare shells to find this complete but a gas one even rarer. The steel case has its driving band in place and the little filler knob on the side this is how we know it is a gas shell it has been over varnished to protect it the head which has most of its original markings but not all still clear to see and a bit damage from being fired it does not screw in and out of the case it has been knocked back in to the case and clued it is solid and does not move .The shell is completely empty and inert and overall perfect condition for display and rare for any collection. The shell case recovered on the Somme battlefield fired in defence during the German Spring offensive or Kaisers battle in 1918 the last German offensive of the war.The shell comes with a A5 laminated information card.
