This is a Canadian soldiers of the 2nd Division shoulder title the brass made title has CANADA on it clear to see. The badge the brass has gone green it is in relic but solid condition it is rusty but not crumbling or braking up it has been very well cleaned and is perfect for display or any collection. The badge was recovered from the area which was the British or Canadian front line in front of where Red Chateau used to stand in the village of Courcelette which was captured in September 1916 on the Somme battlefield. The photograph below is red chateau taken after the battle in 1916.
The village of Courcelette were the scene of very heavy fighting in September 1916. On the 15th, the village was included in the extreme left of the Allied attack and was taken by the 2nd Canadian Division supported by tanks, with the 4th and 6th Brigades storming the outer trenches and the sugar factory, and the 5th Brigade seizing the village. It was destroyed by German artillery after its capture and remained very close to the front line until the German retreat in the following spring.
