This is a rare box German wooden ammunition crate for artillery gun shell fuses. The box is nicely marked on the exterior with the remains of a paper label on the front and stamps and markings in black ink on the front, top, side and the back of the crate all fairly clear to see including the date 1917 the hinges are in good working order the lid opens closes and the locks work perfectly as well the box has had very light amount of wood worm but has been treated. The inside of the box is in nice condition again overall the crate does have a bit of damage from wear and tear when being used but the wood is still solid for over 100 years old and the box is perfect for display or re enacting. This crate comes from a collection on the Somme so a very nice and rare relic from the famous Somme battlefield.
