This is a German wooden crate for 7.5cm FK 18 field gun re used for 8cm mortar shell ammunition box. The box is complete the wood is still retains its original black paint finish with original white stamped marking on the lid still partly clear to see and has waffen stamp and dated 1940 on the outside. The box has the paper label inside not complete and only partly readable it does not have holes other then screw holes it has no woodworm that can be seen the hinges work fine the wood is in nice solid condition not braking up or falling apart the lock does still work and still has its cloth carry handle it has been well cleaned perfect for display. The crate was found on a local brocante or boot fair in Bras a village just outside Bastogne this village is were British and American forces both re captured it from the Germans during the fighting in early 1945.This box was used in the fighting that took place in the Ardennes Forest during the battle of the Bulge in the winter of 1944-1945.A very nice unusual relic found in September 2020 in Belgium ware it has been since the battle.
