    This is a Russian IS-2 Josef Stalin tank wheel cap,nicely cleaned after recovery.The cap is in relic but solid condition does have some original paintwork looks black paint on it the 5 bolt metal wheel cap a heavy lump is undamaged it is rusty but solid and has been well used and is a very nice example of this cap which is not the factory made cap which came with the tank as new this is a replacement one from spare parts and the late war model with no dimple in the middle.The wheel cap was recovered from near Kaunas in Lithuania from Battles around the City in August 1944 during the Russian offensive in Operation Bagration. The wheel cap  which comes with a laminated A5 information card with picture.

    Operation Bagration which cleared German forces from the Belorussian USSR and eastern Poland between 22 June and 19 August 1944. The operation resulted in the almost complete destruction of an entire German army group, with the loss of Army group centre’s Fourth Army, Third panzer Army and Ninth Army. The Kaunas Offensive covered the operations of Chernyakhovsky's 3rd Belorussian front from 28 July to 28 August, towards the Lithuanian city of Kaunas, subsequent to their completion of the offensive against Vilnius. By 30 July all Wehrmacht resistance on the approaches to the Neman River had retreated or been annihilated. Two days later the city of Kaunas was under Soviet control.
