This is a very rare to find steel made airframe structure with impact damage.The structure part which has no real paintwork remains left and has corroded and rusty from laying around on the mountains for many years it is still very solid not braking up or falling apart it has ripped and bent by the impact of the crash it is in nice solid condition the part has been very nicely cleaned and is perfect for display or any collection the part is 13 inches long and 3 inches wide. The part which is very hard to find from this particular aircraft a Royal Navy Swordfish number P4216 of 818 squadron which crashed 21st May 1940 during the German invasion of Norway.The part comes with 2xA5 laminated information cards with crash site pictures of what it looks like now.The parts have come from a private collection which the items were collected many years ago directly from the crash sites he visited and found including surface finds or some aircraft that were dug out and recovered all these parts now available for the first time.
The two Gloster Gladiators took off from HMS "Furious" and were guided by Fairey Swordfish P4216 to fly to Bardufoss in Northern Norway. The planes got lost in the snow and fog. All three aircraft crashed into the mountain Høystakktind between Sifjord and Osterfjord. The Swordfish crew survived the crash, and were rescued the gladiator pilots one died the other survived and was shipped back to England.
S/Lt J A Welply (WIA) and S/Lt G P Simpson (WIA) H H Simpson (WIA) were the crew of the Swordfish.
