This is a section of German soldiers G98 leather rifle sling remains and the extra leather cover which sat against the soldiers shoulder when carrying it. The parts still retain there black colour the brass buckle of the strap has rusted solid and turned green the leather has dried out and is slightly miss shaped it is in relic but very solid condition not braking up or falling apart it has been left in as found condition apart from a very light clean to show the black colour of the leather and has only survived this well as it has been in a chalk lined bunker for 100 years perfect for display or any collection so rare to get from the battlefield as leather items are fragile and normally that just rot away. This rifle sling remains was recovered from inside a German bunker near the village of Bucquay which was a German artillery position during the later part of The Somme battle in 1916 a very nice and rare relic from the famous Somme battlefield.
