German SS used reissued Austrian world war one M17 steel helmet. This is an Austrian WW1 M17 helmet that was reused in WW2 by German troops, the original liner was replaced with a standard WW2 German model. The helmet has suffered slight crushing distorting the shape and rust damage with pitting and small holes through the shell in various places. The rim is rusted through in a couple of places, the liner being steel is also heavily rust damaged. Remains of the original golden brown Austrian paint can be seen along with a darker grey/green paint that is most visible on the inside of the rim. Although in relic condition will still make a fantastic display item. There is the remaining shadow of a decal on the right side of the helmet only, the only troops to have decal on this side only were the SS, thus it is our belief that it can be nothing other than SS used in the last ditch battles in the defence of Berlin. It was bought with several other items at a flee market in Berlin from a local resident that had recovered them during building works in the 1990s in the Kopenick district of the City.
