This is a German near complete single maxim machine gun ammunition tin .The tin is in relic condition not complete but is near complete the lid is there and moves but does not shut properly it still has its locking catch but this has rusted solid and both its side handle both have rusted solid it does have some rust holes but is solid not braking up falling apart. The box has some small amount of paintwork left but not much the whole box has been fairly well preserved by the silt in the river the box has been very well cleaned and is perfect for display or any collection. The box was recovered in 2020 from the River Ancre at Beaumont-Hamel on the Somme battlefield the area of the famous attack on the 1st July 1916 the very large British offensive this area was also attacked by troops from the Newfoundland regiment but all attacks were repulsed and the area stayed in German hands until November 1916.This box comes with A5 laminated information card.
