The British 11th Armoured division was attached to XXX corps. It progressed eastward hard on the heels of the Germans, who were retreating after the failure of the Mortain counteroffensive. On the 16th August they were engaged in heavy fighting against a German rear-guard then the 11th Armoured division seized Flers on 17 August. Then they were involved in closing the Falaise pocket gap advancing steadily towards Trun after its capture and once the battle for the Falaise gap was over, the 11th Armoured liberated more towns and villages as it moved across France into Germany. Below insignia of the 11th Armoured Division.
