This is a Italian shelter halves and poncho used by a German soldier a good chance solider of 1 SS Leibstandarte Adolph Hitler as they were involved in the fighting in the area. Following the capitulation and disarmament of the Italian armed forces in 1943 the Germans took over and issued existing stocks of Italian shelter halves and ponchos. Both the 1 SS Leibstandarte Adolph Hitler and 12 SS Panzer Division  Hitler Jugend Participated in the disarming process so used a large amount of this equipment themselves.

This Poncho was found a few years ago in a barn in the area of Bastogne this was the scene of heavy fighting during the Battle of the Bulge offensive in the winter of 1944-1945 .

The condition reflects being kept in a barn for the past 70 odd years , the fabric has holes where it had been folded and one side had deteriorated over time. The remaining fabric is sound / not fragile. At some point in time all the buttons have been removed.

There are several field repairs where German camouflage material has been used to patch adding to the great history of this piece. A very rare relic from the famous battle late on in the war and properly an even rarer SS used item.
