This is a German MG 34/42 basket ammunition drum which is not complete it has some rust damage mostly down one side.The ammunition drum does have some partly clear to see original green paintwork on the lid of the drum mostly the lid has rusted solid to the drum it is very rusty and still with dirt attached but solid not falling apart or braking up it has been nicely cleaned perfect for display or any collection.The MG drum which would have belonged to soldiers of the of the German 6th Panzer division was recovered near the town of Cassel used in the battle which was fought from 27th until 30th of May 1940. This battle was part of the Dunkirk pocket perimeter fought around the port during the evacuation of May-June 1940 during the Battle of France.
