This is a German soldiers half dog tag which is for the Storm company infantry replacement battalion 232 in the 218th infantry division of the Wehrmacht. This is a aluminium made early war production tag this is the half dog tag snapped to one side the top and bottom section it is in nice solid condition for a relic with its markings fairly readable it does not retain any of its original colour but it is dirty and damaged from being buried it has been nicely cleaned and is perfect for display or any collection and a nice tag from this late war battlefield. The dog tag was recovered in the Kurland Pocket 1944-1945 battle in Latvia. The tag comes from a very large private collection of dog tags recovered some many years ago from all over Europe from most of the fronts fought on by the German Army in World War 2.
Storm company infantry replacement battalion 232: Infantry replacement Battalion 232 was responsible for reinforcing the 218th infantry division. They took part in the invasion of France as part of the 7th Army. This division served as an occupying force in Poland, and Denmark before being redployed on the Eastern front into the Cholm area, however it was forced to retreat into the Baltic regions and eventually ended up fighting all battles of Courland, and Southwest of Tuckum at combat force strength at the end of the war.
