This is Tyre from under-carriage wheel which is not complete it has ripped up by the impact of the crash so some of the tyre is missing but it is mostly there the rubber is still very solid and retains its original black colour finish.This tyre still has many maker markings and part numbers stamped on it which are completely readable this is a large heavy lump of tyre and rare to get from the crash site so complete and in such nice condition.The tyre comes from US P-47 Thunderbolt 42-26393 shot down 14th August 1944 in the Falaise Pocket in Normandy. The tyre is perfect for display or any collection and comes with a 5x7 laminated information sheet with history of plane.
US P-47 Thunderbolt work number 42-26393 the plane was being flown by captain Thomas Montag the plane was lost while he was attacking a convoy full of armoured vehicles after making a few passes he flew to low and crashed in to a Forest which is 5 miles east of Domfront which was in the area of the Falaise pocket in Normandy on the 14th August 1944.
