This is a rare World War 1 German ammunition wooden crate for 7.92mm bullets in well used condition.The box still has some of its original paper labels one readable the other not at all the box has been over painted black on the outside and cream on the inside it has been very well cleaned the box has no woodworm or any real damage.The leather hinges are not broken they are in nice solid condition and leather strap lock is missing also has its cloth carry handles both in nice condition and the lid still opens and closes fine a nice example of this standard issue German Army ammunition crate .The box was found on a Farm in the village of Flers on the Somme battlefield 1916-1918. Flers was the first village captured using tanks in September 1916 during the battle of the Somme.
