This is a American M2 4.2-inch mortar bomb ammunition crate for 2 complete rounds of High explosive with a packed date of December 1943.The crate which is in lovely condition but is missing its lid that would have been lost when the crate was used.The wood is still very solid condition and un damaged with some wood worm in the past but has been treated it also just has some knocks and wear and tear from use it retains its original dark brown colour it has fantastic original yellow stamped markings very clear to see on all the panels also with blue stripe it has been nicely preserved and cleaned and is perfect for display or any collection. The crate came from a private collection in Dieppe originally used by the American Army in the Normandy campaign in the summer of 1944.
