This is a very nice group which are sections of aluminium airframe and engine parts the airframe bits which have a lot of original green and black paintwork remains there are 10 parts in all and 1 of them has clear to see part number also a section of cockpit perspex. The pats have lots of original colour and paintwork remains all the parts have ripped and bent by the impact of the crash they are still very solid not braking up or falling apart the parts have been very well cleaned but are still a bit dirty from the recovery but they are perfect for display or any collection the parts are 2-5 inches long. The parts come from RAF Westland Whirlwind twin engine fighter of 263 squadron flown by Flight Lieutenant Crook he was shot down by return fire from a German Dornier 215 bomber and crashed near Helston in Cornwall on the 1st April 1941.The parts come with A5 laminated information card.
At just before 7pm on the 1st April 1941 an Interception patrol was carried out, Squadron Leader Donaldson and Fight Lieutenant Crooks intercepted a German Dornier 215 bomber north of the Lizard in Cornwall. S/L Donaldson attacked from the starboard quarter, firing a short burst at 250 yards and a further burst at 100 - 50 yards. Pieces flew off the enemy aircraft and white smoke came from both engines; it did a half roll and dived into cloud. It was not seen again/ F/L Crook crashed in flames near Helston and was killed. From the accounts of people on the ground, who witnessed the combat, it appears that he was shot down by the Dornier bomber.
