German M35 steel helmet double decal, lots of original green paintwork remains worn by a soldier of the 297th Infantry Division recovered from a pit in the village of Marinovka, defended by them during the battle of 1942-1943 at Stalingrad

This is a German M35 pattern Helmet which is double decal with both the decals that can be seen pretty well but not complete it has no leather liner left but has a lot of its green paintwork very clear to see on the inside and outside but a lot more on the outside then inside. The helmet which only has a few rust holes and is complete with no real damage. The helmet has been very well cleaned and preserved which a mixture of acids and rust preservation to make the paintwork stand out and very clear to see no more cleaning needed these helmets are very hard to find with the amount of paintwork but it does have some rust on it still but this has all been treated in the clean up process it is overall in a very good and solid condition not braking up or falling apart at all and is perfect for display or any collection and so very rare to get in this condition with so much paintwork. This helmet worn by soldier of the 297th Infantry Division recovered from a pit in the area of the village of Marinovka which was defended by the 297th Infantry Division also in the pit was RAD [Reich Labour Service] items as well all used during the battle of 1942-1943 at Stalingrad in Russia. The helmet comes with 2x A5 laminated information sheets with pictures.

On June 10, 1942, the 297th division began crossing the Seversky Donets river by assault boat, constructing a bridge for other units, including the 14th Panzer Division. The division continued to make inroads around the black sea to take down the industrial city of Stalingrad. During the battle some units within the division were seen to construct caves which would later be transformed into a field hospital and an equipment storage room. The division fought in the ruined city until Field Marshal Friedrich Paulus surrender of the 6th Army in January 1943.
