    This is a German ammunition wooden crate for 7.62mm bullets. The box has a large paper label on the inside of the lid which is complete with readable maker markings and dates with a last pack date of 9th October 1942 also has the remains of paper label on the outside with some readable markings on one side. The box is in fantastic condition with all its original markings a stamped 88 clear to see both leather hinges in nice condition and work and not broken it is missing its leather strap lock but the buckle end is still there it does have both its cloth carry handles the lid still opens and closes perfectly the box held 1000 x 7.62mm bullets.The box still retains its lovely brown colour it has no real damage it is still very solid not braking up or falling apart it has had wood worm but has been treated in case a rare very well preserved box a very nice example of this famous ammunition crate. The crate came from a private collection in Dieppe originally used by the German Army in the Normandy campaign in the summer of 1944 and comes with A5 laminated information cards.
