This is a very rare German Karabingranate M 1914 rifle rod grenade,lovely relic condition first used in 1913 which was only used very early in the war which is the first one i have ever had.The grenade which is a complete outer case which has no rust holes or major damage a couple of small cracks that is all and it is in lovely solid condition The case has been over painted silver the brass end fuse still retains some of its original colour and has screwed in to the case and does unscrew but is tight the grenade is completely inert and empty it has been nicely cleaned and is perfect for display or any collection.The grenade was recovered from the Ypres battlefield of 1914-1918.This grenade comes with A5 laminated information card.
Despite these improvements, none of the 1913 or 1914 rod grenades went 'popular' within German infantrymen, the need of changing the rifle ammunitions to blank type to use them being a frequent source of fatal accidents in the fight heat and taken out of service by 1915.
