    This is a German Wehrmacht large food rations crate which has been used and opened and its lid is missing.The crate which the wood is still solid with no major damage but some knocks and wear from use it still retains its original nice brown colour and has original black stamped markings on the out side of the box with black stamped eagle.The box did have wood worm but has been treated it is lovely solid not braking up or falling apart with its markings clear to see a fantastic condition example of this very hard to find 80 years old German army crate which is 20 half inches by 16 inches in size.This is a lovely rations crate which is perfect for display or any collection.The crate was properly used by the 26th Volksgrenadier Division it was found in the Village of Bras near Bastogne in the Ardennes Forest from the Battle of the Bulge in the winter of 1944-45.The  box comes with A5 laminated information card with picture 

    The German 26th Volksgrenadier Division occupied the village and on the 13th January 1945 they were the last German soldiers occupying the village of Bras near Bastogne at the end of the Battle of the Bulge. On the following day the village of Bras was liberated, and a historic meeting took place when the American forces linked up with the British forces and drove the Germans back into Germany.

    The 26. Volksgrenadier-Division was formed in September 1944 on the training ground Warthelager near Posen from 26th Infantry Division and manpower from the partially formed 582 Volksgrenadier Division It was sent to the western front and saw action in the Ardennes suffering heavy losses. The remains of the division went into captivity in the Harz Mountains in April 1945.
