    This is a steel made structure bar/connector joint which is rusty with no real paint work remains but is still very solid and not braking up or falling apart and has been very well cleaned the part is 5 inches long by 4 inches wide in size and a very rare one for display or any collection and a very rare to find from this famous glider.The part comes from British RAF Horsa glider work number DP349 which crashed during Operation Freshman the attack on Norsk Hydro heavy water plant in Telemark on the 19th November 1942 which crashed at Fylgjesdalen in Norway. The part comes with 2x A5 laminated information sheets with pictures and all the details of the glider and crash site pictures.

    The purpose of this raid was to destroy the heavy water production plant at Vemork. Operation Freshman was the codename given to a British airbourne operation conducted in November 1942 during. It was the first British airborne operation using Horsa gliders, and its target was the Vemork Norsk Hydro hydrogen electrolysis plant in Telemark, Norway which produced heavy water as a by-product.

    Two "Horsa" gliders towed by Halifax bombers took off from RAF Skitten. The second glider, HS114 crashed at Benkjafjellet. The two Halifaxes were on special detachment to 38 Wing. Only one Halifax (A- Apple) returned. W7801 crashed into mountain Jonsoknuten at Helleland. All the crew of W7801 were killed in the crash.

    This glider was towed by Halifax A-Apple and was released over Fylgjesdal where it crashed shortly after. 8 of the 17 onboard died in the crash. They were Lieutenant/OIC.David Alexander Methven. Lance Sergeant/NCO.Frederick Healey. Sapper John Glen Vernon Hunter. Sapper William Jacques. Sapper Robert Norman. Driver George Simkins. Pilot Staff Sgt.Malcolm Frederick Strathdee and Co-pilot Sgt.Peter Doig.
