This is a rare German airtight wooden ammunition crate a Luftdichter patronenkasten which held 1500 rounds of 7.92mm incendiary armour piercing ammunition bullets only used against aircraft for rifles and machine guns. The box is in very nice condition with some of its black stamped markings on the lid the wood still retains a most of its original brown stain finish it has only some light amount damage and even has the original tin cover inside to make it the air tight version is in place the crate is still very solid not braking up or falling apart there is no wood worm and is a well preserved box.The rare bit is the fantastic maker label inside which is complete with all markings and has a last packed date of 1942 also has a paper label on one side and has imposed maker marking on the side with date 1942 so this box was properly only ever used once by the Germans. The crate has both its hinges in nice condition and work the locks both still work fine the lid opens and closes fine but it is missing one of its metal carry handles. On the inside it has some knocks and marks from use but nothing bad it is a nice example of this unusual ammunition crate as it held incendiary armour piercing ammunition bullets which are hard to find. The box was used by the 14th Panzer Division as it was found in the town of Kalach in the area they captured in the battle of July-August 1942 on the Stalingrad front in Russia. The crate comes with 2xA5 laminated information cards with pictures and map.
