This is a unknown type of box what it was used for or carried.The box is metal made which is in nice condition still with a lot of its original steel colour and green paintwork remains and embossed =stamped maker markings and dated 1915 are there and readable and still complete with its internal racking and holders still in place but is missing its carry handle. The lid which still opens and closes fine it has no locks because there were not any and has both its metal carry handles it only has light rust in places and no real damage and very rare to get a box from the battlefield in such good condition that has cleaned up so well with lots of original colour the box is 23 inches long by 6 inches wide. This box was found on brocante in the Village of Flers on the Somme battlefield of September 1916 this was first village captured using tanks on the Somme battlefield. A very nice and very relic from the famous Somme battlefield.
