    This is a German aluminium made mushroom cap badge worn by soldier of the 205th Infantry Division. The badge is in nice solid condition for a relic after being buried but this one with its markings still can be seen it still retains some of its original colour but it is dirty and discoloured from being buried it has been nicely cleaned and is perfect for display or any collection and a very nice cap badge from this late war battlefield. The cap badge was recovered in the Kurland Pocket 1944-1945 battle in Latvia where the unit was destroyed.

    It was renamed the 205th Infantry Division on 1 January 1940 and sent to France near the end of the western campaign. It was demobilized in July, but mobilized again in early 1941, and served as a garrison against any potential Allied invasion until early 1942. It was then sent to the Russian Front, where it served with Army group Centre in the "little Stalingrad" at Velikiye Luki over the winter of 1942–1943. The division was transferred to Army Group North in late 1943 and eventually trapped in the Kurland pocket, where it surrendered to the Soviets in 1945.
