This is a very rare German Afrika Korps soldiers item which is a battle damaged aluminium made steel helmet liner ring which is clearly maker marked Berlin and dated 1937 but not complete. The ring is in 2 parts it is still very solid it is in very nice condition well cleaned and retains a lot of original colours. The ring is pretty much as found condition and is in perfect condition for display or any collection. The helmet ring was recovered from the El Alamein battlefield of late 1942 during the North African desert campaign of 1940-1943.The relic was found and recovered in around 2007-2012 by the Egyptian-Sahara.com expeditions and tours company who specialized in the El Alamein battlefield.The relic comes with 2 x A5 laminated information cards with pictures including of the original flyer for the Egyptian-Sahara.com expeditions and tours company with pictures of some of the items they recovered in the early 2000's this relic was purchased directly from them when they were operating in around 2007-2012.
The battle was fought near the western frontier of Egypt between 23 October and 4 November 1942, El Alamein was the climax and turning point of the North African campaign in the Second World War. The Axis army of Italy and Germany suffered a decisive defeat by the British Eighth Army.
