This is a rare to find a very nice aluminium airframe section with lots of original green paintwork with lots of electrical parts and wiring still attached it has only very slightly corroded from laying around on the forest floor for many years it does still retain most of its original colours it has only slightly ripped and bent by the impact of the crash it is in nice solid condition the part has been very nicely cleaned and is perfect for display or any ollection the part is 8 inches long and 7 inches wide. The part which is very hard to find from this particular aircraft which is a British RAF Short Sunderland number L2167 of 210 squadron which was shot down and crashed at Maidalen Finnemarka in Sylling, west of Oslo on the 9th April 1940 during the German invasion of Norway.The part comes with 2xA5 laminated information cards with crash site pictures of what it looks like now.The parts have come from a private collection which the items were collected many years ago directly from the crash sites he visited and found including surface finds or some aircraft that were dug out and recovered all these parts now available for the first time.
The float plane was performing a reconnaissance mission from RAF Invergordon to Fornebu (Oslo region). While flying away from Fornebu, the airplane was attacked by the pilot of a German Air Force Messerschmitt Me.110. The pilot lost control of the aircraft that dove into the ground and crashed in a dense wooded area. At a height of 3,000 feet, a crew member was able to bail out without any parachute. On the crash site, rescue teams found the dead bodies of nine crew while the jumper, a young sergeant, was injured. It appears his chute was absorbed by deep snow on the ground.
