This is a German soldiers metal clip for carry strap for maxi machine gun this clip was attached to the leather strap that the soldiers used when carrying the maxi gun in and out of a position.The clip is in fantastic condition for its age it is dry and not braking up and is in very solid condition it has only survived this well as it has been in a chalk lined bunker for 100 years only ever seen a few of these ever found so very rare.The clip was recovered from inside a German bunker near the village of Bucquay which was a German artillery position during the later part of The Somme battle in 1916 a very nice and rare relic from the famous Somme battlefield.
