Tiger I tank production at Kassel ran from July 1942 to August 1944, with 1347 built. After this Henschel built 490 Tiger IIs until the end of the war, with the last 13 produced between the 1st and 4th April 1945 and handed directly over to the German forces defending Kassel.
The Henschel plant at Kassel was a target for Allied bombers and was nearly completely destroyed. In one raid between September 22 and October 7, 1944, 95 percent of the plant's floor area was destroyed, which is estimated to have caused the loss of 657 Tiger IIs in production.
