This is a nice glass framed aluminium maker label that still retains lots of its original paintwork remains and markings clear to see the part has ripped off by the impact of the crash it is in relic but solid condition and has been nicely cleaned it is perfect for display and has been mounted in to a glass fronted box frame with information and lots of pictures the frame is 9 half inches by 9 half inches in size. The label was recovered from Russian il-2 Sturmovik ground attack aircraft of the 5th Guards Army which was shot down and crashed in the area of the Psel River, south of Kursk on the Voronezh front. This area was defended by them against the German 2nd SS Panzer corps during the battle part of Operation Citadel the German Kursk offensive in July-August 1943 in Russia..
The Voronezh Front a military formation equivalent to an Army group. The name indicated the primary geographical region in which the front first fought, based on the town of Voronezh on the Don River. The front was established at the end of June 1942 when the German 6th Army reached Voronezh during the early stages of Operation Blau. The Voronezh Front participated in the battle of Voronezh, the defensive operations on the approaches to Stalingrad, and in the December 1942, the follow-on to the encirclement of German 6th Army at Stalingrad.
