This is a large glass framed German Army hand drawn defence position marked map fragment .This rare to find paper relic a lovely bit of map which still retains a lot of its original colours and the original hand drawn markings done by a German officer which are there original colours the paper it is still solid and not braking up of crumbling it has been mounted in to a glass fronted frame which is a nice size at 16 inches long and 12 inches wide it is perfect for display or in a collection. The map fragment shows the German defensive positions to the west of Mons, on the Belgium French border. This is in front of what was the Mons pocket of September 1944 during the Allied summer advance into Germany.
This map remains were found with other German items in a local antique market in Mons. It is likely to have belonged to an officer in the 5th Panzer Army at the time, under the command of SS-Oberst-Gruppenführer Sepp Dietrich.
