This is a early war German mg 34/42 early war aluminium made ammunition tin with some original black paintwork it is maker marked and is waffen stamped that can be seen very faintly on the top of the lid .The lid still opens ,closes but the lock does not work as it is broken it does still have its carry handle which is broken and has rusted solid it still has some of its leather covers on the tin is in semi- relic condition at worst overall very good condition still with a lot of original colour it does have a few small rust holes with one large hole down the side it is unusual to find from the battlefield in such good condition with so much paintwork and colour the tin has about 30%-40% of its original paint work the tin overall in nice condition the small handles on the side both are in place and work a very rare and very nice battlefield relic. The tin was recovered from a pit of German equipment along with RAD items in the area of the village of Marinovka which was defended by the 297th Infantry Division during the battle of 1942-1943 at Stalingrad in Russia and comes with A5 laminated information card.

On June 10, 1942, the 297th division began crossing the Seversky Donets river by assault boat, constructing a bridge for other units, including the 14th Panzer Division. The division continued to make inroads around the black sea to take down the industrial city of Stalingrad. During the battle some units within the division were seen to construct caves which would later be transformed into a field hospital and an equipment storage room. The division fought in the ruined city until Field Marshal Friedrich Paulus surrender of the 6th Army in January 1943.
