    This is a German ammunition wooden crate for 7.62mm bullets it held 1000 rounds of ammunition.The box has a large paper label on the inside of the lid which is complete with readable maker markings and dates with a last pack date of  1941 also has the remains of paper label on the outside with a very few readable markings on one side also on the inside is the remains of an original German newspaper. The box is in nice condition with all its original markings a stamped 88 clear to see both leather hinges are broken but the leather straps are there and could be repaired the leather strap lock buckle end is still there and works it does have both its cloth carry handles the lid still opens and closes perfectly the box held 1000 x 7.62mm bullets.The box still retains its lovely brown colour it has no real damage it is still very solid not braking up or falling apart it has had wood worm but has been treated in case a rare very well preserved box a very nice example of this famous ammunition crate used by soldiers in the 14th Panzer Division recovered near the town of Kalach in the area they captured in the battle of July-August 1942 on the Stalingrad front in Russia The crate comes with 2x A5 laminated information cards.
