This is a rare fuel cap cover which is pretty much complete the metal is partially corroded at the back, it is perfect for display and a rare part for any collection and was recovered from inside German Junkers Ju88 night fighter of 4/NJG2 shot down on night intruder raid over England on 17th April 1941 and crashed near Peterborough in Cambridgeshire. The cap comes with 2x A5 laminated information cards with pictures.
The crash remains a mystery as there are British fighter claims of a ju88 for that night and its was not shot down by Anti-aircraft fire. The plane crashed late in the night of the 17th April at Hurns Farm, Gedney Hill near Peterborough. The crew of the plane were Pilot Obergefreiter Wilhelm Beetz, Wireless Operator Gefreiter Rudolf Kronika, Gunner Gefreiter Johann Mittag. All were killed in the crash and were listed as missing in action since 1941 until the plane was recovered in 1978 and the crew were all buried at Cannock Chase.
