This is a large handle or switch from the cockpit area of the aircraft. These are lovely clean parts one with many part numbers and maker stamp clear to see which is lightly pitted and rusty from being the forest for 70 odd years but they still retain a lot of there original colours and are in nice solid condition and undamaged by the impact of the crash they have been nicely cleaned and are perfect for display or any collection they are 4-5 inches long in size. The part is from German Heinkel he 111 bomber shot down and crashed in March 1942 during the battle and siege of Leningrad in Russia. The part comes with 2x A5 laminated information cards with pictures of the plane in the forest in Russia.
The crew names that are known is Saunus Karl, Meyer Siegfried, Weinholtz Joachim. All of them died in March 1942. That is how we know the plane crashed around this date.
