Nice condition very rare German Reich service flag which was taken as a souvenir by a British soldier of the 8th Army taken from a building in Hamburg from the battle against the 1st parachute army, the battle of April - May 1945

This is a nice condition very rare German Reich service flag which is complete but with some damage. The fabric is still solid not braking up or falling apart it has a few holes and some wear and tear  and is perfect for display or any collection and rare to get from the battlefield especially in this good a condition.The flag is 54 inches long and 31 inches wide in size.The flag comes with a A5 laminated information card with pictures.The flag which was taken as a souvenir by a British soldier of the 8th Army. The flag was taken from a building in Hamburg from the battle against fallschirmjager soldiers of the 1st parachute army, the battle of April - May 1945 in the last days of the Reich.

The Battle of Hamburg was one of the last battles during the war where the remaining troops of the German 1st parachute Army fought the British 8th Army for the control of Hamburg fought between 18 April and 3 May 1945. The 12th SS Regiment defended the outskirts of the city and then the British troops were met with fierce resistance inside the city as Hamburg was the last significant remaining pocket of resistance in the north. Once the British had captured the city, they continued their advance north-east and sealed off the remnants of the 1st Parachute Army. By this time the 1st Parachute Army were a mix of SS, paratroopers, Valkssturm, along with regular Wehrmacht soldiers, supported by sailors, police, firemen and Hitler Youth. Other German units in the area including a tank destroyer battalion, a Hungarian SS unit and many panzerfaust anti-tank troops were still located in the woods south of Hamburg. British troops were met with fierce resistance inside the city as Hamburg was the last significant remaining pocket of resistance in the north. Once the British had captured the city, they continued their advance north-east and sealed off the remnants of the 1st Parachute Army and finally captured the city and a lot of its defenders on the 3rd May 1945.
