German pioneer soldiers axe head which has no wooden handle it has been partly over painted to protect it after its recovery.The head is in relic but solid condition it is not crumbling or braking up and has been well cleaned and is perfect for display or any collection.This axe head issued only to the pioneers troops has been recovered from woods near the village of Flers on the Somme battlefield of late summer 1916. Flers was the first village captured using tanks in September 1916 during the battle of the Somme.
