This is a Totally rare large section of wing from a British World war 1 Airco DH9 bomber. The large section has been cut away from the rest of the wing at some point during the war or just after.The section still very solid not braking up or falling apart still retains its original colours but with no fabric it has been nicely cleaned still fantastic condition for 100+ years old wood that has not rotted away or damaged at all and is a real one off totally rare item perfect for display or any collection.The wing section is 62 inches long by 39 inches wide.The wing part found on a farm on the outskirts of the village of Villers Bretonneux where the Royal flying corps aerodrome and DH9’S were based from July 1918.The wing section was found in the 1970’s by a British collector who was visting the Villers Bretonnex area. It was discovered on a local farm and managed to purchase it and bring it back to England where it has been ever since in their private collection until now.The part comes with 4XA5 laminated information cards with pictures.
The aerodrome at Villers Bretonneux which number 27 squadron was based on from the beginning of March 1918 until the area was captured by the Germans at the end of March 1918 when they moved to Ruisseauville near Arras. The aerodrome was then re captured in June 1918 by the Allies. From July 1918 part of number 27 squadron returned to the aerodrome with the new DN9 bombers to take part in the Amiens offensive of August 1918.
