The demand for the panther tank was so high that the manufacturing was soon expanded beyond MAN to include Daimler-Benz (Berlin-Marienfelde, former DMG Tplant), Maschinenfabrik Niedersachsen Hanover (MNH, a subsidiary of Eisenwerk Wülfel) and the Tiger I's original designer, Henschel & Son in Kassel.

The Henschel plant at Kassel was a target for Allied bombers and was nearly completely destroyed. In one raid between September 22 and October 7, 1944, 95 percent of the plant's floor area was destroyed, which is estimated to have caused the loss of 657 Tiger IIs in production.
