Russian Pomz fragmentation stick mine nice cleaned relic condition recovered from the Dom River area from the battles against the German 4th Panzer Army in November- December 1942-1943 outside Stalingrad in Russia.
This is a Russian Pomz fragmentation stick mine which is the top metal case with no wooden stick stack. The mine is empty and inert it is rusty and pitted it has been very well cleaned it does have a bit of damage from being buried but nothing to bad but overall it is in very nice solid condition with no holes and not braking up or falling apart it is perfect for display or any collection. The mine was recovered from the Dom River area from the battles against the German 4th Panzer Army in November- December 1942-1943 outside Stalingrad in Russia. The mine comes with A5 laminated information card with pictures.
POMZ-2 antipersonnel mine. The mine consists of a wooden stake and a cast iron fragmentation body. The detonator assembly is missing. The mine is painted olive drab. The POMZ-2 antipersonnel mine was a standard fragmentation mine used in the Second World War by the Russian Army.
The 4th Panzer Army which had in it units which included the 14th and 24th panzer Divisions and 92nd infantry Division was under the command of General Hermann Hoth it guarded the outside perimeter of Stalingrad while the 6th Army was engaged in the battle to capture the city. For over two months, the 6th Army was embroiled in vicious fighting in the city; though it was able to take over 90% of the city, it was unable to destroy the last pockets of resistance. On 19 November 1942, the Red Army launched operation Uranus, a counter-offensive which encircled of the entire 6th Army with the 4th Panzer were fighting Russian forces outside the city during the whole of November and December and tried and failed to break the encirclement of Stalingrad in Operation winter storm in December 1942
