This is a Very rare item a crewman's side cap section its from the side and the middle of the cap. This lovely relic obviously it does have some damage from the crash the cloth is dirty it is a bit stained from being buried but still its famous blue colour it is still solid and not braking up of crumbling it is 5 inches long and is perfect for display or in a collection. The cap was recovered from the cockpit area inside German Junkers Ju88 night fighter of 4/NJG2 shot down on night intruder raid over England on 17th April 1941 and crashed near Peterborough in Cambridgeshire. The item comes with A5 laminated information card with picture.

The crash remains a mystery as there are British fighter claims of a ju88 for that night and its was not shot down by Anti-aircraft fire. The plane crashed late in the night of the 17th April at Hurns Farm, Gedney Hill near Peterborough. The crew of the plane were Pilot Obergefreiter Wilhelm Beetz,  Wireless Operator  Gefreiter Rudolf Kronika, Gunner Gefreiter Johann Mittag. All were killed in the crash and were listed as missing in action since 1941 until the plane was recovered in 1978 and the crew were all buried at Cannock Chase.
