This is a very rare German Karabingranate M 1917 ink pot rifle rod grenade for mauser rifle sleeve late war made,The grenade which is a complete outer case which has no rust holes or major damage a couple of bits of pitting that is all and it is in lovely solid condition The case has been over painted black and it fully strips apart the case and does unscrew but is tight the grenade is completely inert and empty it has been nicely cleaned and is perfect for display or any collection.The grenade was recovered from the Ypres battlefield of 1914-1918.This grenade comes with A5 laminated information card.
The M 1917 grenade was based on the same general principles than the French VB, it was likewise cylindrical, innerly prefragmentated, introduced in a sleeve fixed to the Mauser infantry rifle, propelled by a conventional ammunition combustion gas, and explosive after a fixed time triggered by the passing of the bullet inside of a central tube.
