This is a very rare and very nice condition complete German sniper shield which is a early war pattern dated 1915 with maker stamp large sniper shield for a concreate fortification. The shield has no door but looks like there was never one it is rare as it still has a lot of its original green paint work and some red undercoat in a good few places clear to see it has no damage at all and still has both its attachment lugs on the top larger then the standard issue plate at 25 inches long by 16 inches tall. The shield is rusty but not to bad mostly surface rust it is very solid and is in relic condition and has been very nicely cleaned and so unusual to find in this condition and this pattern you could have a 100 year old plate in near perfect condition but has been in the heat of battle on a battlefield that is famous on the Somme. This shield was recovered on the Somme battlefield of 1916-1918 is a very nice relic from a very famous Somme battle and a rare bit of German early war sniper equipment from the battle.
