This is a engine case section from around one of the pistons which is a nice section of mag allow engine case that is lovely clean condition part that stands up nicely as a display peace it is from 601 Daimler Benz engine from a German messerschmitt 110 shot down in Battle of Britain. The case section has all of its original colour with some original black paintwork remains it has been very well cleaned it is in fantastic condition which is perfect for display or any collection and a rare one for the collection it is 6 inches long and 4 inches wide from this famous aircraft from the hart of the DB601 Daimler Benz engine on the aircraft. The part comes from German Messerschmitt ME110 of 5/ZG2, shot down on 16th August 1940 and crashed at Eastbourne in Surrey during the Battle of Britain.
The Messerschmitt 110 was severely damaged in combat during escort sortie of German bombers the plane was abandoned over Eastbourne it was shot down by RAF fighter of number 1 Squadron the pilot was Flying officer H.N.E Salmon. The plane crashed into the grounds of Aldro School in Eastbourne at 5.30pm on the 16th August 1940. The pilot Oberleutnant E.Hollekemp baled out to low and crashed into the roof of Hillbrow in Gaudick Road and was killed his gunner Feldwebel R.Schwurk he baled out and landed in the sea and drowned his body later washed ashore at Eastbourne on the 4th of September. Ernest Hollekemp was promoted Hauptmann after his death and that rank now appears on German records.
